Concepting Design Development Execution
|
|
In an effort to define the exterior facade of the Pacific Northwest College of Art, Creative Director Randy Higgins devised a highly collaborative, and ultimately trans-disciplinary process that resulted in the creation of a cryptogram. A simple series of substitutions and calculations mathematically transcribes all English letters into rectangles with highly specific height to length ratios. A pattern, encrypted with the Author Rimbaud poem Departures, is painted onto the building exterior. Its color palette is purposely devoid of cultural symbolism or idiosyncratic associations and responds directly to psychophysical reactions to environmental changes. The resultant pattern is 20 feet tall and almost 800 feet long.
